Standing out in Miami Beach
We went to a place in Miami Beach that everyone was talking about. It wasn’t the food (though it was pretty good) it was the drinks.
This restaurant created this noteworthy drink. In fact our friends were so excited about this place that we passed by other nice eating establishments to get to this one.
What are the marketing lessons we can learn from this marketing savvy restaurant?
#1 Create a difference: just about every restaurant sells martinis, so making yours different makes a difference. Differences could be in size, presentation, or ingredients.
#2 Showcase Your Uniqueness: the waitress came and told us about the drinks first, not the days special on the food menu they talked about the drinks. Why the drinks?… because they are visible and the more of these large drinks on the table, the more likely they will catch the attention of those in the restaurant or those merely walking by. Who wants to be the guy on the beach without the “cool people” drink?…Exactly
#3 The Feature must Fit the location. This is where a lot of people get this wrong. The reason this works is because the specialty fits. On the beach, it is hot and people are thirsty. So if your feature is a big drink that fits.
This restaurant had many things going right for it. I cannot say that the food was so exceptional that it warranted a write up in the Miami Harold but the difference in the presentation and great marketing principles displayed by this place really made me take notice.
If you are interested the name of the place was Carlyle Cafe
(FYI – this was not our drink, but it looks like there would have been enough to share if i was a Corona drinker,)
